  • Re-think notions of architectural practice
  • Create exceptional student-centred learning experiences in wānanga studio environments

Huri Te Ao AUT's School of Future Environments, opened in 2020, seeks applications for positions in Hoahoanga Architecture. In these roles you will have the opportunity to make significant contributions to establishing and growing two exciting new programmes; the Bachelor of Architecture and Future Environments (BAFE) and the Master of Architecture (Professional) MArch (Prof).

Current community expectations are for architects to be more accountable than they have been in the past, which raises the necessity for a wider range of multi-modal communication skills to engage increasingly diverse communities and client organisations. AUT offers a responsive programme in architecture to re-think notions of architects' agency, understood here as the ability to bring about productive and sustainable environmental change.

These programmes reflect AUT's commitment to shaping our place in the world by responding to Te Ao Māori, Moana a Kiwa identity and diversity. We seek teachers who create exceptional collaborative student-centred learning experiences in a wānanga, studio or project-based environment, who apply knowledge for equity and wellbeing and who can enhance our position as Aotearoa New Zealand's only university of technology with a strong alignment with Te Tiriti o Waitangi and Mātauranga Māori.

We invite applications from architectural practitioners and early to mid-career academics in architecture and related disciplines. We are specifically interested in applications from those with experience in Matauranga Māori and/or in teaching contemporary ecological and sustainable design technology and practices.

This role is based at AUT's city campus, in the heart of Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland. Permanent part-time (fractional positions) will be considered. Appointments will be made at a level appropriate to qualifications and experience and will commence at a mutually agreeable date.

We are seeking applications from those who can teach in one or more of the following areas;

  • Architectural design teaching; collaboration with mana whenua, working with diverse communities and industry outside the university
  • Emerging architectural technologies including regenerative approaches, new materials, ecological thinking, carbon futures and energy impacts in the built environment
  • Strategic thinking in architecture and professional practice.

Hoahoanga Architecture complements a range of new research clusters and teaching programmes in Huri Te Ao.

Closing date for applications:  16 July 2021 at 11.55PM
