Project Title
Facade Repair & Seismic Strengthening - Dunedin Law Courts
Description
S&T was engaged by the Ministry of Justice to provide an Architectural and Building Services design that would assist in the Facade Repair and Seismic Upgrade of Dunedin’s Historic Law Courts building. The Dunedin Law Courts building is over 100 years old and holds a Category 1 Heritage listed façade while sitting on an archaeological significant landscape. Work has begun to to make the landmark building a safer and more structurally sound icon of the community. The building façade is made up of a mixture of Oamaru and Blue stone, with a central tower on the Stuart Street side. The interior consists of 3 courtrooms centrally located though the building with offices and waiting spaces on each side. The building required various seismic treatments, from foundations through to roof framing with major internal intervention and modernisation. S&T take particular care when seismically upgrading heritage buildings and this specialist discipline is where we are becoming particularly well versed in. Work is due to be completed by the end of 2017 with the court up and running early 2018.
